Get a WorkOut Partner

Workout Partners

There are a million reasons to skip your exercise routine. You feel tired. You don’t have time. The list goes on and on. Here is a way to keep on track: get a work out buddy! Studies prove that having a work out partner increases your chances for success. The ideal work out buddy is someone who is the same gender and around the same age as you. Additionally, the ideal partner shares your fitness level.

Benefits of having a workout partner:

– Your workout will be more enjoyable. They time goes by more quickly when exercising with others, because you are also socializing.

– Accountability. Knowing that someone is waiting for you helps you keep on track.

-Healthy competition. A study of 1,000 women found that 64%  of those who run, go to the gym or attend group exercise classes with friends will  push themselves harder than if they went alone.

How do I find one?

-ask friends or co-workers that you think may be interested

-do you see a neighbor running or walking often? ask them, they might like the idea of having a workout partner

-ask your trainer or fitness class instructor if they know of anyone

-Turn to the online world, try- www.meetup.com  and www.findanexercisepartner.com (but be careful and use common sense- workout during daylight hours, in public places)

-many gyms offer “semi private personal training”. This means you and about 3 others being trained together. They will become your automatic workout partners. Fayetteville Athletic Club offers this: www.fayac.com

If you absolutely cannot find one, MUSIC is a great workout partner.  Also, many couples enjoy working out together and motivating each other, living the phrase “The couple who sweats together, stays together”.
